It’s still a couple of weeks before the Galaxy Note 4 gets its official unveiling at the IFA even in Berlin, but it seems there’s little we won’t know about the phablet by then—specs, photos and price have all leaked.
In brief, it’s a beast:
- 2.5GHz Snapdragon 805 processor
- 5.7” QHD display with 515ppi pixel density
- 16MP camera
- 4GB of RAM
- 16-64GB internal storage with microSD slot
- metal frame, just as on the Galaxy Alpha
The specs race may be over, but the Galaxy Note 4 appears set to be a full checklist of all the current cutting edge specs. This includes the arrival of the hotly awaited Snapdragon 805 CPU, with its faster speeds, greater power efficiency and support for better cameras and graphics.
Early benchmarks have also indicated that the as yet unannounced Nexus 6 will also be packing a Snapdragon 805.
The display on the Note 4 will be SuperAMOLED. It measures 5.7 inches with QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels). Even though the Note series has typically been classified as a ‘phablet’, this is the same resolution and just 0.2 inches larger than the display on the LG G3, regarded by many as the best mainstream smartphone of the year.
It’s likely that the Note 4 will continue to come with the S Pen, Samsung’s smart stylus, which may mean it retains the phablet tag. This also gives it a clear distinction over the Galaxy S5, a device that was met with a rather muted reception and has not sold as well as Samsung had expected.
Images leaked to GMSArena show that build quality will also be a step up over the S5, with Samsung’s move towards including metal frames first introduced in the Galaxy Alpha continuing.
Note 4 price and release date
A leak from an Indonesian retailer, reported by Pocket-Lint, reveals the near full specs, and also puts the price at 9.499 million Indonesian Rupiah. That equates to around £487, and with the inclusion of 20% VAT means the UK price will be £584, or more likely £599. The US price will be $813.
The only major questions remaining about the Note 4 are the exact dimensions and the battery size, as well as the leaking of full-res press images. We wouldn’t be surprised if all these things happened by the time the device is unveiled officially on 3rd September.
